The Washington, hotel in Bristol

The Washington is a Grade 2 Listed building, less than a mile from Bristol city center and is a 3-minute walk from Clifton Suspension Bridge, Bristol Museum and Art Gallery.

The staff were really really lovely. Breakfast room is more modern than the hotel which was a very pleasant surprise when we entered it for breakfast. Breakfast was absolutely lovely. The staff served us with a smile. Which goes a long way. If they could concentrate on updating the rooms just a little and sorting the bathrooms out, it would do great for them. The bath panel isn't a big thing to change and would have made the bathroom a little more appealing.

FAQs about hotels in Bristol

From Brunel to Banksy!

Britain’s 4th most popular visitor destination, Bristol features Brunel’s magnificent Clifton Suspension Bridge spanning the Avon River. More Brunel handiwork is in the harbor, where his SS Great Britain steamship is moored. Pirate walks here detail the city’s underground naval history.

Further north in Clifton is the world’s oldest zoo outside a capital city. Other Bristol attractions include At-Bristol Museum and the Grade I registered historic Corn Exchange with its 4 "nails" outside where money changed hands. Also worth a visit is St. Nicholas Market, in a Georgian square home to several bars and a Slow Food Market on the 1st Sunday of every month. Other Bristol shopping options include shopping centers at Cabot Circus, and Cribbs Causeway on the outskirts.

As a student city, Bristol really comes to life after dark. The live music scene here is fantastic and has given way to several internationally known bands, but for something more alternative head to Eastside.

Another option for alternative-seekers is the work of hometown street artist Banksy. Just like Booking.com’s Bristol accommodations, his work is spread throughout this fabulous city.

This Gateway to the West Country is served by Bristol Airport and Temple Meads train station. The old Bristol to Bath rail line is now a cycle route and makes a great day trip.

We took a walking tour of Bristol centre which was very interesting, visited the SS Great Britain which was excellent. The M-shed museum captured Bristol life very well, but we thought the small section on slavery was insufficient when the Cathedral had much more informative displays. The aviation museum with Concorde was worth visiting, lots of information on Bristol's aviation history in both war and comercial times. Lots of good food and drink choices in Bristol centre, not there in the evening but lively during the day in early May. Driving into the centre on two days was challenging, lots of slip roads, sudden turns and changing speed limits. Getting to Wapping Wharf for the SS Great Britain was the worse, went around a couple of times before getting the right turning.

Bristol is a great city to visit.

Bristol is a great city to visit. We did a Treasure Trail around the harbourside which was fun and very interesting. We saw 2 "Bankys". As the weather was glorious there were very many people enjoying the river. Paddle boarding, sailing and just sitting on the quayside. We ran out of time to visit the Clifton Suspension bridge and the Observatory so we shall have to make another visit sometime. We can recommend the Tikka Flame if you enjoy a good curry.

Great city; lots of shops; restaurants; attractions; walking tours The British history and art museum was free to access and well worth a visit. Ate lunch at little bistro along the harbourside (Arnolfini) - lovely to sit in the sun, watching boat trips; harbour master sailing around. Cabot Circus has many options for food, together with hundreds of pubs/restaurants throughout the town centre. The food/bar outlets along the river are lovely on a nice, sunny day (near Welsh Back Street). Parking at Cabot Circus for 3 days worked great - offers on free parking option with a stay at Future Inn. Definitely worth thinking of, to save looking for alternative parking.

First time exploring Bristol but we were only there for less than a day. What we saw was excellent, a vibrant city with lots of culture and things to do. Our experience was a positive one. The Bristol Beacon was a great venue to watch Paul Weller at and we had a lovely meal at Ciao in Denmark Street. Too many things on offer for our short trip. We will definitely be back for longer to see more that the city offers.

Clifton is a nice part of Bristol, lots of trendy cafes and bars. The Clifton Catholic Cathedral is well worth a visit - Brutalist in design but with fantastic stained glass built in the same era as Liverpool RC one, again in the round.

The hotel is located in a great area and I was able to get a car parking space at the hotel which was a bonus as I know how much parking costs in Bristol, especially at the City centre hotels. It was free to park although I think that may have been because it was a Sunday. Breakfast was okay. Good value for money on a Sunday tariff but I would have been very disappointed with my stay had I stayed on a Friday or Saturday and paid almost twice as much. The bed was comfortable.

The staff were very inviting from the moment we stepped inside the hotel. One staff member even gave us a map of Bristol and helped us pick out nice bars for the evening! Our room could not have been any cleaner and had everything we needed, including a hair dryer and mini fridge. We could not have asked for anything else and would 100% recommend this hotel if you are looking for something of a decent price, modern and a walking distance from the city centre.

I liked the cleanliness and the friendly staff. The breakfast was very good. I would recommend including the breakfast in your booking. Although I stayed there for two weeks, I never got tired of the hotel breakfast. I also liked the close proximity to the Castle park and the city centre. The hotel is also within 20-25 min walking distance to the University of Bristol, which was convenient to me. The bar has a nice seating area where I could work.

Staff are all excellent, beds are the best I have slept in. Breakfast was a good deal but it is a bit haphazard as not all items available together ie if you got bacon there was no beans, when beans turned up no eggs and so on.
